EDDS v0.9 Changes
* Streamlined NPCs and made the City Adventure section easier to follow and
more consistent. In particular, heroes now start adventure on the road,
leading to the city. Each city now also has a castle with a lord.
* NPC family relatives and romances, as well as Acquaintanced NPCs, whom you can meet again on the later visits to the city. See D20 Contacts
* Spelljamming and simpler airships. E.g. you can now restore that derelict
spelljammer infested by aliens.
* Prison Break adventures.
* Thematic dungeon biomes. These are populated by a single monster type.
Humans, dwarves, elves, kobolds, orcs, goblins, undeads, etc..
* Using spells like Greater Scry to locate NPCs and spy on them.
* WANTED tag for each city, in addition to the general INFAMY.
Guards at SMALL cities or cities where you have PATRON ignore INFAMY,
unless you're WANTED locally. That incentivizes criminal heroes
to keep low profile in the countryside and protectionism at larger
cities.
* Rules to DC N Chase to quickly run away from monsters, without leaving
adventure. As well as rules allowing one hero to sacrifice themselves to allow
others escape.
* Streamlined the DC N Scene for less rolls and greater possibilities of coverage, like time pressure. E.g. you pause to explore options and bring that beast of burden from the local village to make use of your Animal Handling, but the world isn't waiting.
* Hunted Animals now trigger DC N Chase, if you fail Stealth DC
* Lawful hero gaining DOOM tokens for INFAMY on month's start.
Good hero gains max DOOM for each non-evil NPC killed.
* Changed mechanics associated with identifying cursed items.
Using them now rolls into the D20 Baggage section.
* Expertise: Lv.2 hero on attack or skill check, instead of d20, can roll d12+d12-2, with hits above 20 dealing 2x damage.
* Updated Pickpocket to be less punishing.
* Removed restriction on visiting same city more than once per month,
since the D20 Flaws/Bond/etc.. incentivize exploration naturally.
* Updated linear travel with a distribution of biomes,
and a table of travel routes. E.g. to Maztica, Kara-Tur and Zakhara.
* FULFILED token now doesn't grant permanent Lv.2. Instead each FULFILED
token reduces XP needed to Lv.2 by 1. When at Lv.2 each FULFILED
token adds +1 to HP and +1 to any skill trained past 5.
That keeps XP mechanics usable even after the 1st FULFILED token,
That preserves the original DAS idea that already accomplished heroes
learn about the local environment and therefore can function better,
and also allows for a single overpowered hero.
DAS levels above 2 map to epic/demigod leaves from the normal DnD,
and are now naturally simulated by the ESSENCE tokens.
* XP N monster now has N*d6 to each skill.
* Updates to DC N Chase to allow targeting the runner, if the distance allows.
* Travel Adventure updated to allow lower HP heroes to leave earlier.
* The DC of tasks you do after apotheosis is now doubled, instead of adding 10.
* Merged D20 Information into the NPC quest system.
* Dropped the simplified city actions section, since its existence led
to confusion, and most other features requiring the proper City Adventure.
* Cleaned up rules for long and short rest.
* Merged Locked Doors and Traps into D20 Environment.
Same happened to Room Inspection
* Merged Specialized Weapon into Artisan's Wares, and streamlined its mechanics,
so that both FIGHTER heroes and Artisans are more useful now.
This campaign is nearly complete.
What remains is polishing, more playtesting and minor features.
TODO:
* Lesser Deity Spells, which need ESSENCE to cast.
* Backgrounds+Abilities to model classes like Monk.
* Mechanics for household items, found at NPC homes.
